Six people were killed and 12 others injured in a fire at an Andhra Pradesh pharma unit.



Six people were killed and 12 others injured in a fire that broke out at a pharmacy in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday midnight. It is suspected that the fire may have been caused by a reactor explosion due to a gas leak.


According to police, a fire broke out at Porus Laboratories Pvt Ltd, trapping workers at Unit-4. Five workers were burnt in the blaze and a sixth worker was injured when he was shifted to a government hospital in Vijayawada.


The fire was brought under control within two hours.


Four of the six dead were migrant workers from Bihar. The bodies of the two victims have so far been recovered.


The deceased have been identified as Udurupathi Krishnaiah, B Kiran Kumar, Kaaru Ravi Das, Manoj Kumar, Suvaas Ravi Das, and Habdas Ravi Das.


Expressing condolences over the incident, Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced a compensation of ₹ 25 lakh to the families of the deceased.


He also announced a compensation of ₹ 5 lakh each for those with serious injuries and 2 lakh for those with minor injuries. Authorities have been ordered to monitor the condition of the injured.


The Superintendent of Police and the District Collector has been ordered to conduct a detailed investigation into the incident.
