2 Militants were killed, and 1 security guard was killed in a Jammu encounter ahead of PM Modi's visit.
Authorities say two militants and a security guard were killed when terrorists targeted a CISF bus which led to a gun battle near an army camp on the outskirts of Jammu on Friday morning (April 22, 2022). They said nine security guards were also injured in the gun battle.
The encounter began after security forces launched a dawn operation in the Sunjwan Cantonment area of Jammu. Police said they had received information that terrorists were planning an attack in the city. However, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) said the attack was carried out by terrorists targeting a bus carrying its personnel and an assistant sub-inspector was killed.
"Two terrorists were killed in the Sunjwan encounter. The terrorists ambushing in Sunjwan were planning a major attack. The aim was to inflict maximum casualties on the security forces," Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief Dilbag Singh said.
A CISF official said the bus carrying 15 personnel was attacked by terrorists in the morning. "The CISF effectively retaliated and drove the terrorists away. One CISF officer was killed and two others were injured," he said.
Police Head Constable Balraj Singh of Kathua, SPO Sahil Sharma of Akhnoor, CISF’s Parmod Patra of Odisha, and Amir Soran of Assam were injured in the gun battle between the security forces and the terrorists.
Two days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Samba district, an encounter took place in Sunjwan amid heavy security arrangements in Jammu and Kashmir. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to leave for Jammu on April 24.
According to PTI, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Pali village, 17 km from Jammu, to address a gathering on National Panchayat Raj Day (April 24).
