Former US President Barack Obama tests positive for Covid-19.

Former US President Barack Obama said on Sunday he had a positive test for Covid-19 and that it was fine except for a sore throat.

"Michelle and I are grateful for the encouragement to get vaccinated," he wrote.

I just tested positive for COVID. I’ve had a scratchy throat for a couple days, but am feeling fine otherwise. Michelle and I are grateful to be vaccinated and boosted, and she has tested negative.

It’s a reminder to get vaccinated if you haven’t already, even as cases go down.

Obama reiterated his support for the vaccine in his tweet on Sunday, saying his own positive test was "a reminder to get vaccinated, even if the cases have dropped, if you have not already been vaccinated."

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that more than 80 percent of people aged five and over in the United States have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, despite the country's immunization program.
