New COVID-19 variant of 'IHU' discovered in France - said to be stronger than Omicron

A new Covid-19 variant called 'IHU' was discovered in France

Scientists and experts in France have identified a new variant of COVID-19 called 'IHU'. The new variant is said to be more distorted strain than Omicron.

About 12 cases have so far been found near Marseille, originally linked to travel to the African country of Cameroon.

The B.1.640.2 or IHU variant was first detected by educators at the IHU Mediterranean Infection Institute.

Researchers say it has 46 mutations - more resistant to vaccines and infections than to Omicron.

Experiments show that the strain contains the N501Y mutation - first found in the alpha variant - and experts believe it could spread further.

According to the scientists, it contains E484K mutation, which means that it will be more resistant to IHU variant vaccines.

It has not yet been detected in other countries or branded as a variant of the World Health Organization investigation.
