In India, more than 2.64 lakh new cases were reported in 24 hours, Omicron infections to 5,753.
India has 2,64,202 new Covid -19 cases in the last 24 hours, up 6.7% from the previous day and a 239-day high, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Friday morning.
In addition, there has been a 4.83% increase in Omicron cases since Thursday, with a total of 5,753 infections diagnosed so far, according to a Union Health Ministry release.
Of all the states, Maharashtra has the highest number of cases at 46,723, followed by Delhi at 27,561, West Bengal at 22,155, Karnataka at 21,390 and Tamil Nadu at 17,934.
In the last 24 hours, 481 people have been killed by Covid-19, bringing the total death toll to 4,84,859. The highest death toll was recorded in Kerala (300), followed by Delhi with 40 daily deaths.
India had conducted 18,86,935 tests in the previous day, according to data from the Ministry of Health.
A total of 76,32,024 vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of doses administered to 1,54,61,39,465.
