Covid-19 Vaccine: Vaccination For 15-18 Age Group Starts Today

The vaccine was launched today for teenagers between the ages of 15 and 18, as covid cases are on the rise in many cities. More than 8 lakh teenagers are registered on the government's CoWin portal and everyone gets a dose of the drug Covaxin.

The first Covid vaccines for more than 4.5 lakh teenagers between the ages of 15 and 18 were launched today as they were vaccinated. The vaccination campaign is carried out in consultation with schools in hospitals and health centers.

Schools and other educational institutions are also used as vaccination centers.

People born in 2007 and before are eligible for the vaccine. According to data on the CoWIN website, more than 12.5 lakh teenagers have so far registered.

The Union Health Ministry has said that covaxin will only be given to teenagers and that additional doses of the vaccine will be sent to all states and union territories.

On December 25, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the vaccination for 15- to 18-year-olds would be launched from January 3.

The administration of the third dose vaccine for health workers, leading staff and vulnerable senior citizens will begin on January 10th.

Since the opening of schools and colleges earlier this year, a significant portion of children and teens have been infected with the virus. Several cases have been reported from residential schools and college hostels. The government has not yet decided on a booster dose for everyone.

Two new vaccines - Corbevax and Covovax - have been approved and may be used as a booster dose. Sources said the new vaccines could also be considered for use in children.
