422 Omicron cases in India till now, highest being reported in Maharashtra

Omicron cases in India has risen to 422, the highest being reported in Maharashtra.



The number of Omicron cases in India reached 422 on Sunday. A maximum of 108 cases have been reported in Maharashtra. Meanwhile, 79 cases of Omicron were reported in Delhi, 43 in Gujarat, 41 in Telangana and 38 in Kerala.


On the same day, 6,987 new Covid-19 cases were reported in India in the last 24 hours, down 2.8 per cent from yesterday. 


Maharashtra - with the highest number of reported cases of corona virus - has 108 cases of the new variant. Forty-two people have so far recovered in the state, the health ministry said. Following the western state, there are 79 cases in Delhi (23 of which have been cured). There are 43 cases in Gujarat and 10 have recovered so far.


In Telangana, 41 cases (and 10 cured patients) of the new variant were reported, while in Kerala and neighboring Tamil Nadu there were 38 cases (one cured patient) and 34 cases  respectively. According to the Health Ministry data released this morning, there are 31 cases in Karnataka and 15 people in the state have so far recovered from the new strain.


West Bengal has six cases so far and Haryana, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh four each. Other states that have reported Omicron strain are Jammu and Kashmir (3 cases), Uttar Pradesh (2 cases) and Ladakh (one case).
