Heavy rain has been warned for Chennai on November 18


The Tamil Nadu Center of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rains in Chennai as low pressure is developing along the southern Andhra coast. The city has also been warned on November 18. The adjoining Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu and Tiruvallur districts are expected to receive showers on Tuesday, November 16 and Wednesday, November 17. IMD also forecast rains in Vellore, Ranipettai, Thiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, Mayiladuthurai and Delta districts of the State.Light to moderate rain is also expected in Pondicherry along with Karaikal areas on Tuesday.


Houses in low-lying areas are still flooded as Chennai and its surrounding districts have been inundated after heavy rains for the past two days. As all the ponds and lakes in Chennai have filled up, the administration has also opened some reservoirs to drain the excess water. However, the poondi Reservoir has reached full capacity. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are on standby to deal with any situation and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) units are also on standby to deal with any problems that may arise as expected.




Police, fire and rescue services, Tanketco staff and health officials are on high alert to deal with any situation that may arise.
