Delhi schools will be closed till further notice due to air pollution.
The Directorate of Education today ordered that all Delhi schools be closed till further notice due to the high air pollution levels in the city as the national capital continues to experience bad air quality this season.
At the moment, only online classes are running.
"The Department of the Environment has ordered the immediate closure of all schools until the Air Quality Management Authority re-orders the NCR and adjoining areas. Therefore, all public and private schools will remain closed until further orders" , Additional Director of Education Rita Sharma said.
“However, online learning activities and exams for board classes will be conducted as per the guidelines issued earlier".
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced that schools will be closed for a week starting Monday, November 13. A day later, the Haryana government on Monday announced the closure of schools in four cities -Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat and Jhijar.
At 9am this morning, the city recorded 382 on the Air Quality Index (AQI), again falling into the "worst" air quality category - a constant pattern for the city since New Delhi's Diwali celebrations earlier this month.
AQIs between 0 and 50 are as considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very bad' and 401 and 500 'severe'.
