Why Social Media platform like facebook, wattsapp & Instagram are Down?

Reason for social media platform down

The family of apps, including Facebook and Instagram and WhatsApp, which was inaccessible for hours on Monday, took over a major communication platform used by billions and shows how the world depends on a company under intense scrutiny.

Facebook itself has not confirmed the root cause of its woes, but there are plenty of clues on the internet. When the company's domain name system records could not be reached, the family of applications of the company effectively fell from the face of ET at 11:40 am. DNS is often referred to as the phone book of the Internet; It translates the hostname you type into IP addresses, such as facebook.com, into a URL tab, where those sites live.

DNS errors are common enough, and when in doubt, they are the reason why a given site went down. They can be for all sorts of technical reasons, often related to configuration issues, and are relatively straightforward to solve. In this case, something more serious seems to be going on.

"Facebook's malfunction appears to be due to DNS; however, this is a sign of trouble," said Troy Mursch, chief research officer at cybercrime intelligence firm Bad Pockets. If the DNS is the Internet's phonebook, the PGP is its navigation system.

More than 3.5 billion people around the world use Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp to connect with friends and family, to distribute political news, and to expand their businesses through advertising and publishing.

Services were down from about 16:00 GMT to 22:00 on Monday.

Mr Zuckerberg has apologized to those affected by the outage.
