US military launches drone strike on ISIS-K planner a day after Kabul airport bombing

The U.S. military says on Friday it carried out a series of drone strikes against the Islamic State-led coalition responsible for Thursday's bombings at Kabul airport.

The bomber struck shortly after noon in the Afghan province of Nangarhar, according to US Federal Command spokesman Bill Urban. "Early signs that we killed the target," he said. "We do not know of any civilian casualties."

The White House said the next few days would be the most dangerous in the US evacuation operation, and the Pentagon said it had evacuated about 111,000 people from Afghanistan in the past two weeks.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the United States believed there were still "specific, credible" threats after the bombing of an airport gate.

"We are definitely ready and looking forward to future endeavors," Kirby told reporters in Washington. "We monitor these threats, most, in particular, almost in real time."
