No Vaccination For Those Aged 18-45 Years in Karnataka on May 1 ( Vaccine Shortage )

No Vaccination For Those Aged 18-45 Years in Karnataka on May 1

In Karnataka, 18-45 year olds will have to wait a few more days to be vaccinated against covid because the government is currently facing a vaccine shortage. Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar on Friday said vaccination for those over 18 years of age, which was scheduled to start from May 1, could be delayed.

"We have issued over one crore orders to the Serum Institute in Pune, but the official news is that they are not yet ready to deliver it to us as planned from tomorrow," the minister told reporters. Gov. asked people who registered themselves on the portal to get vaccinated, to avoid going to vaccination centers on May 1st.

Dr K Sudhakar added that the government will notify the eligible candidates after confirming the arrival of the vaccines to the Serum Institute of India.“We have already paid Rs 400 crore to purchase one crore doses of Covishield, manufactured by the Serum Institute of India in Pune,” he said.

According to him, the serum company has the capacity to produce five to six crore units a month, while Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech can produce one to 1.5 crore units. Russia 's Sputnik has licensed Dr Reddy's laboratory to produce the vaccine, but they have not officially informed the government when they can deliver it.

Meanwhile, several states including Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu will have to delay the third phase of the vaccine flow for all adults (Covid-19) as jobs against the corona virus disease may not be available immediately due to shortage and delays in distribution.
