Uttarakhand: Glacier Burst In Chamoli District
Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar on Monday said that 26 bodies have been recovered so far following the eruption of the Uttarakhand glacier.
As of 8 p.m., 171 people are still missing, 35 of whom must be in the tunnel where rescue operations are underway.
Several institutional rescue missions, including the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (IDBP) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), are still in full swing to free people trapped in the mines. Troops have removed 90 meters of debris from a large tunnel in Tapovan, and there is still about 100 meters of settlement.
To capture the situation, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat visited the Chamoli district on Monday and said saving lives was their first priority. Speaking to reporters, Rawat said he would succeed in clearing the entire rubbish by this evening.
Rawat yesterday announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of those killed in the accident.
