Lashkar Leader Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi Arrested In Pak For Financing Terror
Mumbai terror attacks mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi arrested in Pakistan.
Lakhvi, who was on bail since 2015 in the Mumbai attack case, was captured by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Pakistan.
"Following the intelligence-based operation carried out by CDT Punjab, the leader of the banned organization LeT leader Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi was arrested on charges of financing terrorism," it said.
"Lakvi was accused of running a pharmacy, using funds raised for terrorist financing. He and others raised funds from the pharmacy and used the funds for further terrorist financing. He also used these funds for personal expenses," the CDT said.
"His case will be heard in an anti-terrorism court in Lahore," it added.
In the aftermath of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, Lakhvi was named a global terrorist by the United Nations under the UNSC resolution in 2008 as the operational commander of the terrorist organization.
During the Mumbai attacks investigation, it was revealed that Lakhvi had prepared the entire plan for the terrorist attack on the orders of Hafiz Saeed.
The attacks, which sparked global condemnation, lasted from November 26 to November 29. At least 174 people were killed and more than 300 were injured, including 9 attackers.
Lakvi, the leader of the attacks, was released on bail in April 2015, following which he went missing.
