Over 450 ill in Andhra due to mysterious disease, chemical found in pesticides suspected to be behind illness

A health official said on Tuesday that Indian authorities were investigating the death of one person and the hospitalization of more than 400 people with organochlorines used as pesticides or mosquito control in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh in the past few days.

The unknown disease has infected more than 300 children, most of whom suffer from dizziness, lightheadedness, headache and vomiting. They tested negative for COVID-19.

Other officials pinpointed a possible role of chemical additives in pesticides, while residents have highlighted a problem with garbage and feral pigs.

On Monday they released a report saying the symptoms included "3-5 minutes of seizures, forgetfulness, anxiety, vomiting, headaches and back pain."
