A mutated COVID-19 strain that spread on Danish mink
The state serum agency (SSI) on Thursday announced that the mutant strain of COVID-19, which has spread to mink farms across Denmark, is "mostly" extinct.
Earlier in November, after COVID-19 explosions were attached to some of the 1,200 Danish mink farms, Danish authorities ordered the destruction of all minks in the country. It is estimated that there are 17 million minks in the country.
Officials at the time said the mutant strain could weaken the effects of future COVID-19 vaccination, and the country's top epidemiologist said, "In the worst case scenario, the epidemic will start again, this time in Denmark."
But the SSI said in a statement that the so-called "cluster 5 mink variant" is under question within five mink farms in the north of the country. It has been identified in only 12 people, and no cases of variation have been detected since Sept 15.
