US Arrests Over 500 Illegal Immigrants, Deports Hundreds

Just three days into Donald Trump's presidency, his administration launched a huge crackdown on illegal immigrants in the United States. Dozens of people who entered the country illegally have been arrested and deported in the crackdown.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said 538 illegal aliens were apprehended, including one suspected terrorist, four members of the Tren de Aragua gang, and other convicted criminals like sexual abuse of children. The majority of the arrested have already been deported on military flights.

This is the largest deportation operation in history, and we're just getting started," Leavitt wrote on an online posting on Thursday. "The Trump administration is living up to its promises to fortify our nation's borders.".

The White House also made a statement that listed some of the offenses for which the arrested persons had been involved. These included some serious offenses like rape and child sexual abuse.

Within days of taking office on January 20, President Trump had signed an executive order titled "Protecting the American People Against Invasion." It says that over recent years, there were millions of illegal aliens entering the United States, consistently defying existing federal law, and have populated cities across the country.

The order also pointed to fears that such individuals are dangerous to public and national security and charged them with engaging in serious offenses against Americans.

Congress approved on January 23 the Laken Riley Act, a Republican-sponsored bill to arrest and deport illegal immigrants who arrive here without papers and are charged with certain crimes.

The Trump administration has positioned these actions as a strong move towards fulfilling campaign pledges to secure the border and address illegal immigration.
