Air India declares emergency after bomb threat in Airbus lavatory
An emergency occurred on an Air India flight from Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (BOM) to Trivandrum International Airport (TRV) in India after a bomb threat was found in the airplane’s bathroom.
According to the Press Trust of India, the pilot contacted air traffic control on August 22, 2024, after a note saying "bomb in flight" was discovered on tissue paper in the bathroom. The threat was declared at 7:36 AM local time, shortly after the crew reported it.
The Airbus A320-251N, carrying 135 passengers, landed at TRV around 7:50 AM and was quickly secured by airport security. The plane, which took off from Mumbai before 6:00 AM, was checked by experts, and the passengers were allowed to get off around 8:45 AM.
“There has been no harm to anyone, and airport operations are running as usual,” TRV said in a statement according to the Times of India.
An Air India spokesperson said that the crew followed all safety procedures, putting passenger safety first, and that “all passengers and crew disembarked safely.” The police are now investigating the bomb threat on the A320neo.
