Trump's attacker was rejected by school shooting club as he was 'terrible' at it

In Steward, Pennsylvania, a 20-year-old man named Thomas Matthew Crooks tried to kill former President Donald Trump at a rally. Crooks fired an AR-15-style rifle from a rooftop 140 meters away. The rifle was bought by his father.

Law enforcement shot and killed Crooks, who lived in Bethel Park, an hour from the rally. He had tried to join the rifle team at Bethel Park High School but was rejected because of his poor shooting skills. Former classmates described him as a terrible shooter, with one student remembering that Crooks once missed his target by nearly 20 feet.

Classmates also mentioned that Crooks often made inappropriate jokes about guns and was frequently bullied for his quiet nature and hunting clothes.

After the shooting, authorities found a "suspicious device" in Crooks' car, which is currently being analyzed by bomb experts. Crooks had no reported military ties.

During the attack, Crooks' gunfire hit Trump's right ear, killed a 50-year-old man, and injured two other spectators. Secret Service snipers shot and killed Crooks after he fired multiple shots from the rooftop.
