Train Derailment in Jharkhand: 2 Killed, 20 Injured on Mumbai-Bound Train

Two persons died and 20 others were injured after about 18 coaches of a train bound for Mumbai derailed in the early hours of the morning in Jharkhand.

Howrah-CSMT Express derailed near Badabamboo, around 80 km from Jamshedpur, at around 3:45 am. Officials said immediately after the derailment was reported, rescue teams have been rushed to the site and a rescue and relief operation is on.

"Two people were killed and 20 injured as 18 coaches of Howrah-Mumbai Mail derailed near Barabamboo. Rescue operations are on and an NDRF team is rushing to the spot," said West Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Kuldeep Chaudhary, who is at the accident site.

Senior Railways official Om Prakash Charan said a goods train had also derailed nearby, but it is unclear if the two accidents happened at the same time. Out of the 18 derailed coaches, 16 were passenger coaches, one was a power car, and one was a pantry car. The injured have been attended to by the Railways' medical team and shifted to Chakradharpur for further treatment.

Officials said that the exact cause of the derailment is being looked into. Several trains en route to the destination of the doomed train were canceled or diverted after the accident.

Buses have been pressed into service to take the affected passengers and helpline numbers released by Indian Railways.
