Flight Operations Suspended at Delhi Airport from 10:20 am to 12:45 pm Until Republic Day

No flights can land or take off from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport between 10:20 am and 12:45 pm until Republic Day, January 26, as per the government's notice issued on Friday.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has updated the Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) to implement these new restrictions.

The airspace in the national capital will have limitations for 11 days this month because of preparations for Republic Day.

Between January 19 and 25, non-scheduled and chartered flights can't land or take off from 10 am to 1:15 pm. From January 26 to 29, these rules apply from 6 am to 9 pm, as mentioned in the notice issued earlier this week.

The notice (NOTAM) won't impact the helicopter operations of the Air Force, Army, or Border Security Force, or aircraft operated by the central government that are transporting the Governor or Chief Minister of a state.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), which is the largest airport in the country and manages around 1,300 flights every day, will be affected by these measures at certain times. Travelers and airlines are recommended to plan accordingly for this temporary disruption.

To ensure security on an important day, Delhi Police has prohibited the use of paragliders and other flying objects until February 15. The banned items include hang gliders, microlight aircraft, unmanned or remotely piloted aircraft, drones, and hot air balloons.

Jumping with parachutes, known as para jumping or parachuting, has also been prohibited.

The East District division of Delhi Police conducted a practice anti-terror drill at the Akshardham Temple. The drill is meant to assess how well the police force can respond to various crisis situations.

India will mark its 75th Republic Day on January 26, 2024, commemorating the significant day when the country fully transitioned to being an independent republic with the implementation of the Constitution.

French President Emmanuel Macron will be the main guest.

This marks the 6th occasion when a leader from France will be the special guest at a Republic Day parade.
