Massive Fire at Visakhapatnam Harbour: 25 Boats Destroyed, Navy Called In
Over 25 fishing boats burned down in a big fire at Vishakhapatnam's harbor last night. The Indian Navy came in to help control the fire because many fire trucks couldn't put out the flames.
Each boat was worth around 15 lakh, and the total loss from the incident is estimated to be between 4 to 5 crores.
"The entire jetty area was engulfed in flames as the diesel containers and gas cylinders on the boats caught fire," the top Policeman mentioned.
Fishermen think that some bad people intentionally set the boats on fire. They also suspect that a party on one of the boats might have started the fire.
Sad scenes at the harbor: firefighters trying to put out the flames while fishermen watch, feeling helpless as the fire ruins their way of making a living.
According to Senior Police Officer Ananda Reddy, the fire started around 11:30 pm. He mentioned that cylinders on the boats were causing explosions, so people were told to stay away. Firefighters are trying to stop the fire. The exact cause is not known yet. Fortunately, no one got hurt. A case has been filed, and they are looking into what happened.
Police Commissioner Ravi Shankar stated that a thorough investigation involving different areas of expertise will be carried out to find out what happened in the incident.
The fishing harbor is owned by Vizag Port Trust. The investigation will include authorities from the port, fisheries, and police departments.
