Yamuna crosses danger mark again, flood alert issued as Hinton level rises in Noida

The water level of the Yamuna River in Delhi has risen above the danger level, reaching 206.26 meters at the Old Railway Bridge. The increase in water level is attributed to a surge in discharge from the Hathnikund Barrage into the Yamuna, which resulted from heavy rainfall in certain areas of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

By 4 p.m. today, the water level is predicted to climb to 206.7 meters. The evacuation of people living in low-lying areas in the capital has begun.

The Delhi government is on high alert after the release of 2 lakh cubic feet of water from Haryana.

According to the data from the Central Water Commission (CWC), the water level increased from 205.02 meters at 10 pm on Saturday to 205.96 meters at 9 am on Sunday. Subsequently, it reached 206.26 meters by 3 pm.

"Around 200 people have been evacuated from five villages and shifted to shelters set up by the administration to provide them shelter, food, and sanitation," Additional District Magistrate Atul Kumar said.

Based on the latest official data from last Sunday, a total of 8,710 individuals have been affected by the floods in the district, out of which 4,748 have been displaced. Additionally, the floods have resulted in the displacement of 6,308 animals.

Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi yesterday said the Arvind Kejriwal government is monitoring the situation.

Ms. Atishi has expressed concern that certain areas of Yamuna Khadar could face flooding if the water level exceeds 206.7 meters. She further stated, "The government is fully prepared to conduct prompt evacuations in these vulnerable regions."

"The revenue department has taken comprehensive measures to deal effectively with the situation. Be it Central district, Eastern district, or areas like Yamuna Bazar and Yamuna Khadar, we have made adequate preparations to face the challenges that may arise," the minister said.

The effects of the floods have been devastating, with more than 27,000 people displaced from their homes. There has been a loss of crores of property, business, and income.

The swollen Yamuna inundated several areas and major roads last week, displacing many families and leading to heavy property loss.
