Giant dome collapses after fire breaks out at a mosque in Indonesia

The giant dome of the Jami Mosque in northern Jakarta, Indonesia, caught fire and collapsed on Wednesday during renovation work. A thick plume of smoke was seen from the spot.

The mosque is located on the campus of the Jakarta Islamic Center, a think tank on Islamic studies and development.

Footage of the incident showed the giant dome collapsing after being engulfed in flames.

Indonesian media reported that at least 10 fire engines were dispatched to the scene after firefighters were alerted to the blaze shortly after 3pm local time.

Police confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.

The police said that an investigation is being conducted into the cause of the incident and 4 workers from a contractor involved in the work of renovating the mosque have been questioned.
