Heavy rains cause waterlogging in Delhi-NCR area, and traffic jams; Schools closed in Noida




The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory saying that light to moderate rains have been lashing the national capital and are expected to continue for the next 48 hours, resulting in waterlogging in many areas and traffic jams across the city.


According to the India Meteorological Department, there will be moderate rain on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and the division has issued a 'yellow alert' for Friday. A yellow warning is a warning to be aware that moderate to heavy rain is expected.


Water logging at the following places:- 1. Near Hanuman Setu on Shanti van to Hanuman Mandir Carriageway, 2.Libaspur underpass, 3. Maharani Bagh Taimur Nagar cut, 3. CDR Chowk, Mehrauli towards Gurugram, 4. Andheria Mode towards Vasant Kunj, 5. Under Nizamuddin bridge, 6. Singhu Border near petrol pump, 7. MB Road towards Sainik Farm carriageway," Delhi Transport Police tweeted.



Heavy rain yesterday left Delhi and many parts of the National Capital Region inundated. Schools for classes 1-8 have been closed in Noida and Gurgaon as rain is forecast for the next two to three days.


Heavy rains have disrupted normal life in Noida, Gurgaon, and the national capital. Traffic was also affected. On Thursday, heavy rains led to waterlogging and traffic jams in many places in Gurugram. Many parts of the national capital are waterlogged.

Due to inclement weather (heavy rain) in Delhi (DEL), all departures/arrivals and consequent flights may be affected. Passengers are requested to monitor their flight status.


"During the next 3-4 hours light to moderate rains are likely at most places with severe gusty winds at some places over Delhi and NCR regions as fresh cloud approaches Delhi," the weather Office tweeted.


West, Central, North, North-West, South, and South-East Delhi are expected to receive light to moderate rains. Some parts of Delhi may experience light rain for the next two to three days.


The monsoon axis will extend over West Uttar Pradesh/South Haryana and Delhi NCR till the end of the week, giving regular rainfall, which will be heavy at times.
