Jailed terrorist shot dead near the border in Jammu, Cops Say He Snatched Rifle

Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist from Pakistan was shot dead near the international border in Jammu on Wednesday. Mohammad Ali Hussain was shot when he tried to escape after grabbing the gun from the policeman, police said. A policeman was also injured in the firing and admitted to the hospital.

The terrorist was lodged in Jammu's Kot Balwal jail for several years. Police say he operated weapon-dropping drones from prison.

"An accused in Jammu has revealed that a Pakistani prisoner played a key role in disposing of drone debris and was a key operative of  LeT and Al-Badr terror groups. He was produced in court after being released from jail and later remanded in police custody," Additional Director General of Police Jammu Zone Mukesh Singh said.

During further interrogation, the accused confessed to his role in the Arnia weapon drop case and revealed two locations where the weapons and ammunition dropped by the drone were hidden.

Police took him to the border on Wednesday to retrieve the weapons, where he tried to flee.

"To recover the weapons, a police team along with the concerned Magistrate went to the spot one after the other. While no recovery was made at the first location, a packet of arms, ammunition, and explosives was recovered from the second location i.e. Top village in Phallian Mandal(near the international border)," the ATGP said.

While opening the bag, the terrorist assaulted a police officer and snatched away his service rifle.

"He fired at the police party and tried to flee from there. In retaliation, the accused was injured and was shifted to Jammu GMC Hospital along with the injured police officer," he said, adding that the terrorist later died.

The ATGP said they are investigating the abandoned packet with the help of a bomb disposal squad.
