Karnataka High Court has ruled that wearing the hijab is not an essential religious practice.



The Karnataka High Court has dealt a major setback to students who fought against the ban on wearing the hijab. Five petitions were filed in court against the ban.


Prior to the order, the state government had banned large gatherings for a week in the state capital, Bangalore, to "maintain public peace and order." Large gatherings have also been banned in Mangalore from March 15 to 19. Holidays for school and colleges in Udupi today.


The Karnataka High Court last month temporarily banned religious clothing including hijab and saffron scarves, sparking controversy and clashes between various sections of students.


Accordingly, the court dismissed the petitions filed by the Muslim students against the action of the government pew colleges which denied them.
