At least 70 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in a Russian artillery attack on a military base in Okhtarka, between the cities of Kharkiv and Kyiv, according to the Associated Press. Following the Moscow shelling of Ukraine's second-largest city on Monday, a residential area was shaken and the capital, Kyiv, was shut down, with talks aimed at ending the fighting only to negotiate a deal.

Dmytro Zhyvytskyy released photos of rescue workers searching for the burnt shell and wreckage of a four-story building. In a later Facebook post, he said several Russian soldiers and some locals were killed during Sunday's fighting. The report could not be immediately confirmed.

Amid growing international condemnation, Russia was increasingly isolated for five days during its invasion, while Ukraine faced unexpectedly fierce opposition on the ground and economic devastation at home.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the government was trying to guarantee the protection of all Indians in Ukraine. He said India would help abandoned neighbors and developing countries in Eastern Europe.
