At least 17 people have been killed when the Taliban threw weapons to celebrate the 'Punchshir fall' in Kabul.
Taliban sources told Reuters news Agency on Saturday that its militants had seized the Panchshir Valley, the final stronghold of an attempt to seize Afghanistan. By the grace of Allah Almighty, we control the whole of Afghanistan. The troublemakers have been defeated and Punchshir is now under our command, ”said a Taliban commander. Fierce fighting continues in the valley and has killed hundreds so far.
Opposition leaders, however, denied the allegations. News of Punchshir's victory has been circulating in the Pakistani media. This is a lie, ”said Ahmed Masood, who led the rebels.
Meanwhile, Dolo News reports that former President Hamid Karzai has issued a statement calling on the Taliban and the "opposition front" in Punchshir to stop fighting and resolve their issues through talks.
In other reports, Taliban sources said Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, co-founder of the Reuters group and head of the political office, would lead the new Afghan government. Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob, son of Mullah Omar, co-founder of the Taliban, and Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai will hold high positions in the government. Haibatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban's top religious leader, handles religious affairs and administration.
