Internet, call and message services has been suspended by thaliban in Panjshir

In an effort to create a communication blockade, the Taliban have suspended internet, calling and news services in the province of  Panjshir  since last evening. The  Panjshir  Valley is home to the Northern Alliance, which carries the flag of armed resistance against the Taliban.

Fahim Dashty, a spokesman for Ahmed Masood, the leader of Afghanistan's National Opposition Front, confirmed that telecommunications services across Panchsheer had been suspended since Saturday (August 28) evening. In addition to mobile internet, calls and messaging services have also been cut off.

Panjshir is one of the last hotspots of resistance remaining in the hands of the Taliban in Afghanistan. It is a stronghold of the anti-Afghan forces against the Taliban and is currently commanded by Ahmad Masood, son of  Sher-e-Panjshir Ahmad Shah Masood. In addition to Ahmed Masood, Afghanistan's Vice President Amrullah Saleh, Afghanistan's Defense Minister Bismillah Khan Mohammadi in Ashraf Ghani's government and former army commanders who have not left the country are in Panjshir.

Earlier, on August 23, the Taliban sent 3,000 Taliban fighters to the Panjshir border to seize the valley. However, due to increasing international pressure, Taliban militants have not yet attacked Panchsheer. The Taliban said they wanted to seize Panjshir through peace and negotiations, but now it is feared that the rebel group could use violent means to seize the valley.

Meanwhile, according to Afghan media reports, Taliban Higher Education Minister Abdul Baki Haqqani announced that girls and boys would no longer study together in universities in Afghanistan. By forbidding co-education, women will be allowed to study in separate classes according to Islamic law.
