CBSE Class 12 Board Exam: Teacher Files Plea In SC Against Cancellation

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has filed a public interest litigation in the Supreme Court challenging the cancellation of Class 12 board examinations. In his petition, Tony Joseph, a teacher from Kerala, said that giving up exams would be an unfair decision for students.

The petition states that the Class 12 exam is a part of a student's life and is important for enrolling in higher education.

Last week, another petition was filed in the High Court seeking annulment of the Class 12 Board Examinations conducted by CBSE and the Council for School Certification Examinations of India (CICCE). It recommended evaluating students through an ‘objective method’ within a specific time frame.

Mr Joseph opposes the petition filed today by advocate Mamta Sharma in an earlier petition filed in the Supreme Court.

"A large section of academics and company leaders are in favor of conducting the exams. Academics believe that the exams should not be canceled and should be conducted using digital media," Mr Joseph said in the petition.

The petitioner argued that the results were "unreasonable" on the basis of internal assessment, because in the 2021-22 academic year, "no teacher ever looked at students physically."

The CBSE had earlier said that no decision has been taken so far regarding the Class 12 students. The board said such results would be officially communicated to students.
