Avian Influenza Confirmed In Kerala
State Animal Husbandry Minister K Raju said the two districts of Kerala, Alappuzha and Kottayam, have been placed on high alert following the confirmation of bird flu outbreaks in ducks. He said at least 50,000 ducks would be taken to check the spread of the virus and the government would compensate the farmers.
In Kerala, Avian Influenza's H5N8 strain has been confirmed in Alappuzha and Kottayam areas. Of the eight samples sent to the Bhopal-based laboratory, five were diagnosed with influenza, commonly known as bird flu.
About 12,000 ducks have died in the last few days, while another 36,000 ducks could be ejected, according to the minister.
This comes days after many crows were discovered dead in various pieces of Rajasthan, including Jaipur. Comparable examples were likewise revealed from Indore in Madhya Pradesh
Authorities have confirmed avian influenza in samples from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
