Serum Institute files Rs 100 crores defamation suit against man who said 'Covishield’ made him ill





On Sunday (November 29) he severely rejected "malicious and false" allegations by filing a Rs 100 crore defamation case against a man suffering from a "virtual neurological breakdown" after a dose was given during the vaccine investigation.


The Pune-based pharmaceutical company said in a statement that it had "nothing to do with the vaccine test and the volunteer's medical condition" despite its sympathy for the medical condition of the volunteer.


The Serum Institute said it would demand Rs 100 crore to make false claims to the volunteers and take all steps to protect themselves from such false claims.


Earlier, a chennai based volunteer who was a third-tier volunteer of Covishield had demanded "Rs 5 crore compensation for severe damage after a low-test vaccine.".


The 40-year-old man was vaccinated on October 1 at The Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, Chennai.


On November 21, he filed a legal notice in which he said ten days after taking the dose he began experiencing "severe headaches", "total behavior alteration" and "irritation on light and sound". The person in his notice said that no one could be identified or spoken.


On October 26, he was discharged from the hospital after suffering from "severe encephalopathy,"the announcement states, "The trial vaccine is a serious side effect.
